HEROES AND SURVIVORS
out via sanctuary 5th july 2004
Born in Salford, Lancashire, singer/songwriter and guitarist Allan Clarke was one of the founding members of The Hollies who along with his childhood friend, Graham Nash started singing in Manchester in the 1950s. Formed in 1963, The Hollies became known for their strong vocal harmony style and enjoyed consistent success in the UK singles chart with 29 entries, 17 of which reached the Top 10, with two, I’m Alive’ and ‘He Ain’t Heavy’, He’s My Brother’ making the Number 1 slot. Allan Clarke launched a solo career in 1971 and made several albums during the periods that he wasn’t working with The Hollies.
Originally recorded for the Aura label, the two albums that make up this double set, ‘I Wasn’t Born Yesterday’ (1978) and ‘The Only One’ (1980) displayed the same songwriting craft that Allan Clarke became renowned for. The set includes bonus tracks including a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born To Run’.
