"Bobby Elliott - One of the best British drummers ever" So says Gilson Lavis in the June issue of the drummers magazine, RHYTHM. The following is an extract from the magazine:- Alcoholism, heart attacks, classic hit records..... Gilson Lavis has had a hell of a life so far. And it looks like Britain's most fearless drummer is only just getting started. Through his long association with Jools Holland, Gilson Lavis, (former SQUEEZE drummer) has become one of the highest profile drummers in Britain. His powerful swinging and sensitive drumming is the backbone of Jools' R'n'B Orchestra. Rhythm: "In the Squeeze days I saw you like a Clem Burke (BLONDIE) or a Bobby Elliott (THE HOLLIES): a charismatic drummer breathing fire into quality pop songs" Gilson Lavis: "I love Bobby Elliott. Without a doubt that man is one of the best British drummers ever. He personified that whole era of British pop and showbiz, performance and elegance - a wonderful, wonderful player. It was actually watching him that made me want to play drums. I wanted to do what he was doing, but the music that really gave me the shivers was big band, so it was Bobby Elliott plays big band." 20th April 2003 Carl Wayne to give more radio interviews.
