CARL WAYNE JOINS THE HOLLIES
Carl Wayne has agreed to succeed Allan Clarke in The Hollies. "I applaud Allan Clarke's extraordinary contribution to the success of The Hollies over many years and his decision to leave for personal reasons is admirable. I look forward to a successful association with The Hollies and although I acknowledge their formidable musical reputation, I feel this is a new stage in their illustrious career. Whilst respecting what has already been achieved, I am not joining The Hollies just to make up the numbers! The year 2000 gives us the opportunity to move forward and rather than constantly refer to the past, there now exists enormous potential to record and succeed with new material. In many ways the Clarke/Nash vocal combination was similar to my work with Roy Wood. The Move always loved the American rock/vocal group sound as pioneered by The Byrds and later The Eagles and that is why I am very excited about working with The Hollies, the U.K's leading exponents of that sound." Carl Wayne was the lead singer of The Move and their many hit singles have recently been celebrated with the critically acclaimed new release The Move - The Complete Singles Collection & More (Crimson CRIMCD233). 4 Star Q magazine review (March 2000) : "the best CD compilation of the U.K's most underrated 60's band". Carl Wayne has performed on record, TV, film and stage world-wide, notably as 'The Narrator' in the London West End production of the award winning musical 'Blood Brothers'.
